Who Can Inject Botox® and Fillers in Florida?

Inject BotoxAesthetic services are no longer best-kept secrets. Rather, aesthetic services are at an all-time high secondary to self-awareness with the proliferation of social media and selfies. Botulinum toxins (Botox®, Xeomin® or Dysport®) and injectable fllers year after year are one of the top procedures performed in aesthetic centers and med spas. Despite these procedures being elective, did you know that Botox®, Xeomin® and Dysport® are classified as prescription medication, and fillers are classified as prescription medical devices? Therefore, only medical providers that can diagnose, treat and prescribe can implement the aforementioned treatments. Now that you know, the next question should be ‘who then can inject Botox® and fillers in the state of Florida?’

In Florida, the injection of Botox® and fillers are considered the Practice of Medicine. Thus, a Physician may inject, as well as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (Nurse Practitioner) and a Physician Assistant under protocols written and reviewed by a supervising Physician in accordance with Florida Law. Remember, not all ‘nurses’ are educated equally. So, if you are seeking a Botox® or filler treatment from an individual that identifies him or herself as a ‘nurse,’ be aware that not all nurses are educated equally. In Florida, only a Nurse Practitioner, not an RN, LPN or CNA, may perform these injectable services.

At OBI BioAesthetic Institute, licensed Nurse Practitioners offer Aesthetic Medicine services, including Botox®, injectable fillers such as Juvéderm, ® Restylane®, Radiesse, and Versa®, plus platelet rich plasma (PRP).

The team at OBI BioAesthetic Institute invites you to bridge the best you, from the inside – out. Call today 904-273-5454 to schedule your personalized Aesthetic Medicine consultation with Gerrie M. Obi, MSN, APRN, AGPCNP-BC, CPSN.
